Environmental Technologies

Ricoh aims to bring about “industrial revolution of the environment” through the development of innovative environmental technologies, thereby realizing a low-carbon society.

Preventing Global Warming through Energy-Saving Mode

HYBRID QSU Technology

Traditional QSU (Quick Start-up) technology is combined with a capacitor (electric storage device) to store electricity while in standby mode so that it can be used for start-up and printing operations. This technology is adopted by high-speed type multifunctional copiers.

Color QSU Technology

This technology, based on IH (Induction Heating) that uses magnetic force to produce heat, has been further improved in such a way to cause the fusing roller itself to generate heat. The technology enables color copiers to both be user-friendly and highly energy efficient.

New Color PxP Toner

Toner designed to fuse at an even lower temperature than its predecessor, which realizes a shortened warm-up time, faster continuous output, and less energy consumption when in use.

Resource-Saving Multifunctional Copier

Ricoh products are designed to have up to 87% recyclable components, and continues to develop new materials that reduce environmental impact as well as technologies to reduce paper consumptions.

Biomass Toner Technology

In 2009, Ricoh developed the world’s first biomass toner for which we adopted plant-based resin. It is used as a genuine manufacturer’s supply item, and released that utilize this toner in the Japanese market. About 80% of conventional toner is petroleum-based resin, Our new “for E toner” however, has a biomass content of 25% of the entire mass including the resin. This technology will lessen the environmental impacts of toner use—it will suppress the depletion of petroleum and reduce CO2 emissions through carbon-neutral processes.

Duples & Multi-page Printing

Heightened environmental awareness has spurred the shift to duplex printing, which halves paper consumption. Ricoh has made it easier to print on both side of a sheet, or even multiple pages on one sheet. By simultaneously scanning a page on both sides, copying is faster too.

The newly developed compact scanning module for the rear side helps realize a high-speed color scanner equivalent in size to a conventional model while offering the same excellent imaging quality for both front and rear sides. The duplex color scanning technology is incorporated in Ricoh's high-speed MFPs, whose scanning speed is among the fastest in the industry.
