Eco Park Tour
Ricoh invited 30 Green Partners and major customers to visit Eco Park, Tuen Mun on 24 February, 2011 to learn more about recycling and environmental industry in Hong Kong. Ricoh arranged a guided service for customers to learn environmental activities through interactive education program and video.
In addition, Ricoh brought customers to visit Yan Oi Tong EcoPark Plastic Resources Recycling Centre, which is a non-profit organization which provides recycling programs and source separation of waste plastics. Meanwhile, Yan Oi Tong shared their operation of how to categorize plastic and recycling process.
Feedback from customers are very positive to this event:
“This activity is worth to participate!”
“Looking forward to next environmental activities”
“We will share what we have learned during the visit with our staffs.”
Eco Action Day
As a part of energy saving activities participated in by all employees, the Ricoh group is setting a Ricoh Global Eco Action Day when people should consider and take action for global energy saving. Ricoh group companies around the world will participate, turning off the lights at major facilities and on billboards. Individual companies are also being called on to take actions such as turning off unneeded lights.
We believe if all employees and their families across the world work on this together, we can even expand the effect from energy saving to helping preserve the environment as a whole. On this day, we ask everyone to THINK about the environment and to begin to ACT where they can.
Ricoh Hong Kong Limited Corporate Afforestation Scheme
We regard environmental conservation as an integral element of our business activities and we have chosen a tree-planting program as further demonstration of our commitment. Trees are valuable for conservation of the natural environment, as they provide shelter for wildlife and birds, leisure for city dwellers and most importantly, filter the polluted air of our crowded city.
In year 2001, Ricoh Hong Kong Limited joined hands with Friends of the Earth (FoE) in the Corporate Afforestation Scheme to adopt corporate woodland in support of the Agriculture, Fisheries and Conversation Department's initiatives in greening our Country Parks. From 2001 to 2003, over 240 participants from Ricoh joined the tree planting project in High Island Reservoir of Sai Kung East Country Park.
At the end of 2007, Ricoh, our business partners and Friends of the Earth Hong Kong, joined hands again to contribute to environmental conservation by continuing their support of the Tai Lam Tree Planting Project, launched in June 2007. The group spent the day weeding around the area where a total of 10,000 tree seedlings will eventually be planted in about two hectares of woodland at the Ma On Kong, Tai Lam Country Park over a period of three years.
“Green Video Competition” for Schools
With the objective of promoting environmental consciousness among the younger generation, Ricoh Hong Kong Limited launched the 'Green Video Competition' in October 2005 together with Friends of the Earth (HK) with the theme of "waste reduction". Targeting to secondary schools, universities and youth organizations, the event had received generous support by the media, Baptist University Multimedia Department, Radio and Television HK and local film directors to help on organizing a workshop on filming techniques and the final judging. Response to the competition was overwhelmed with 120 applications and over 70 entries. The Panel of Judges had given high commendations to the entries and they were enlightened by the short videos produced by the contestants.
In the results presentation ceremony held at the Olympic Shopping Mall on 15th January, Mr. Aaron Yim, Managing Director of Ricoh HK, presented a cheque for HK$65,000 to support FoE's environmental protection projects.
The Champion, First Runner-up, Second Runner-up and Merit awards winners were presented with trophies, cash prizes and Ricoh digital cameras as prizes. The Champion teams of both the secondary and university categories are also invited to a complimentary four-day educational tour to Japan sponsored by Ricoh to visit our zero-waste factory. The students will be able to learn about the environmental practices and share with their friends after return to Hong Kong. JAL has kindly sponsored tickets to Japan in support of this meaningful cause.
With RHK's mission in corporate social responsibility, this competition was successful in promotion of environmental conservation in the local community.
RHK Racing Team Shines in the Solar Cart Race
Ricoh Hong Kong followed last year's success to participate in the Solar Cart Race organized by the green organization Friends of the Earth again this year. The objective of the race is to promote renewable energy to the public and the race took place on 16 January 2005 at the Victoria Park with participants from various companies, schools and organizations.
The Ricoh technical team from the service department and warehouse helped to build and designed the racing car with solar powered engines and decorated the vehicle creatively in bright red. The racing team comprised of staff from Sales, Marketing, Service and Support Departments and they finally won the Second Runner-up prize with flying colors. RHK also grabbed the Best Team Spirit Award, thanks to our energetic cheering team.
